Abstract
In this talk, Dr. Bae will present the design and iterative refinement of a computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL) environment that blends aspects of collaborative inquiry in the form of problem-based learning (PBL) and a game-based learning environment called EcoJourneys. In particular, this work highlights the needed affordances for CSCL as we tried to design a meaningful and group-worthy task, communication spaces, opportunities for knowledge co-construction, and scaffolding for productive collaborative processes.
Biodata
Dr. Bae is assistant professor at the University at Albany, State University of New York (SUNY). Her research brings together problem-based learning, artificial intelligence (Al), and teacher education in STEM education. She explores how teachers can support complex and ambitious learning processes using emerging educational technology. Her ongoing projects include the development of a cognitive orchestration assistant for collaborative inquiry learning in a game-based environment, as well as the co-design of a locally relevant Al curriculum. This curriculum focuses on the integration of ethics-centered Al literacy to enhance understanding and assessment of the significance and ethical implications of Al.
