Abstract:The advancements of technology bring about innovation in language learning. We can learn new words not only from textbooks and classrooms, but also from everyday life. New technologies, such as augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and mixed reality (MR), provide more personalized, multimodal ways to learn vocabulary. In this webinar, two scholars will introduce their research on Technology Enhanced Language Learning (TELL). Dr. Yanjie Song will introduce her experiences with her research titled: “Design and Evaluation of an Augmented Reality Application—VocabGo for Vocabulary Learning in a Seamless Learning Environment.” Dr. Nehal Hasnine will then present his research titled: “Towards Understanding Learning Contexts and Broadening Word Learning Scopes in Informal Learning.” After the presentations, two invited panelists, Prof. Vivian Wu and Dr. Yuichi Ono, will join the discussion on the current issues and future possibilities of TELL for vocabulary learning. Dr. Wu is currently researching an application for robotics and AI in TELL, while Dr. Ono is applying learning analytics for TELL. This webinar will offer an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to discuss and consider how new technologies can be used to enhance vocabulary learning from various perspectives.
